This past christmas, the children brought great energy and enthusiasm into their performance of the classic nativity scene. They rehearsed lines, got into character and designed their costumes and set before the big day. Parents, family and friends poured into the room in such numbers that the crowd was nearly standing room-only. The children were delighted by a surprise visit by Santa Claus, who, much impressed with their performance, handed out Christmas treats as a thank you.
Narrators (reading or reciting their lines) punctuated the action, while an assortment of merry holiday songs (Jingle Bells, Away in a Manger, We Three Kings, Silent Night in English and German and more) kept the mood bright. The night ended with a sing-along, music from the children and delicious treats for all.
Parents loved the child-led process and the songs. Overall they agreed that the festivities provided ample cheer and joy for the dark winter nights, and all left feeling inspired and ready for the holidays.
