Healthy Community

Food is a big part of the children’s day with us: Designed by a nutritionist, our food is made fresh every day onsite. Our menus are tasty, seasonal, allergy-adapted, discovery inducing and festive on occasions. Primarily plant-based, while maintaining a good protein content every day (with meat and fish on certain days).
- 1. No processed sugar
- 2. No allergenic preservatives.
Children here are nourishing their bodies and fuelled for learning. Menus at Children First are planned seasonally and new recipes are incorporated regularly. We believe eating together is an enjoyable social occasion to educate young palettes and form healthy habits. We share and prepare food as a key part of community life.
At morning break we share fruits brought from home by the children. Part of the family ethos at Children First, this is a communal experience as children learn to share and eat a range of fruits. The lunchtime session is part of our core curriculum. The children help to set the tables and learn how food grows as well as how to eat with good manners! Practical exercises to develop their hand-eye coordination are incorporated into every mealtime. Lunches and snacks are made with high quality ingredients with limited additives. Allergies and intolerances are catered for with professional training for staff. We are responsible for nourishing the body and spirit!
“The food is super healthy and all cooked on-site. My friends are impressed when I show them the menus and they see what my child is eating. I love the quinoa, bulgar and grain alternatives to just serving pasta and that there are no fries, schnitzels and sweets!”

Activities and Fun

Design your family life
Our English and German teachers offer immersive language learning and fun activities including a forest morning since 2012. Preschool parents can choose all-inclusive three to five day per week packages including after-school courses, a perfect solution for working parents as we are open during the school holidays. Our little learners want to experience the Children First magic all year round!
The Children First villa at Freiestrasse 175 in Seefeld has a Piano Room for specialist musical instrument classes in central Zürich. We also rent our Community Rooms to language teachers and our private playground is used for football courses and birthday parties.
Forest Mornings
We offer a forest outing every week for 3 to 6 year olds. This whole morning in nature encourages children to be curious about the world around them and they develop an appreciation of free movement. They experience the beauty of the great outdoors while developing physical stamina. The kindergarten and preschool children travel to the Witikon Elefanten Bach, the forest teepee, and on the Dolder cogwheel train nearby, to learn in an alternative, less structured environment. These regular outings in the woodland sow the seeds for them to appreciate nature. Long walks, finding practical solutions and navigating obstacles are part of the programme in the woods. Be prepared to let your children explore, use tools and get dirty!.

Holiday care & Activities
In the school holidays we offer bite-sized educational programmes and outings including fun group activities and theme days. Guest teachers have included artists, an architect and language teachers from around the world. The children experience longer immersion in a special project that brings self-awareness and novelty in safe and familiar surroundings.
After-school we focus on learning through play in small groups and specialist classes such as Music, Football, Theatre, French, Chinese and Baking. Piano teachers offer individual lessons. The children can also go outdoors again and enjoy a second playtime in good weather in our private purpose-built playground and garden at Freiestrasse 175.

Education

A curated curriculum.
The Children First method is based on decades of best practice and implemented by our teachers through individual and group lessons incorporating British and Montessori traditions. We have extensive experience of teaching both monolingual and bilingual children. Our annual learning themes ensure children develop specialised vocabulary as well as ensuring broad interests and skills.
Daycare matters: the child’s brain ages 1 to 6 is highly receptive to specific types of learning. In a supportive environment, this period becomes a golden age for absorption. It is characterized by a remarkable ability to acquire information and new skills. These years concentrate most, if not all, the ‘Sensitive Periods’ described by Maria Montessori: periods when young children have a heightened sensitivity and an intense urge to learn leading to significant cognitive as well as emotional and social development.

Kindergarten At Children First High German and native English lay important foundations for learning to think. We blend learning from ages 3 to 6 like a Montessori kindergarten. Our specialised courses are delivered in small groups with built-in individual attention to learn reading, writing and basic maths. Making friends and an emphasis on social skills are incorporated from the Swiss curriculum.

Your child’s first school From a child’s point of view, at the age they are starting school the separation between learning and play is artificial and irrelevant to their experiences which are all about learning through play. Our teachers understand that happy children learn best.
